Pot Comedy 'We're the Millers' Lands ‘Dodgeball’ Director (Exclusive)
New Line pot comedy We’re the Millers is lighting up again.
Rawson Thurber is in negotiations to step into the director’s chair for the project, which centers on a drug dealer who, on his 30th birthday, decides that he wants out of the business. He decides to do one more job, which forces him to travel to Mexico and create a make believe family in order to bring 1,400 pounds of marijuana into the U.S.
Directors and actors have always been high on Millers, which has been in development at New Line since 2002.
Full Monty director Peter Cattaneo and more recently John Morris and Sean Anders were attached as directors, among others, while Will Arnett and Steve Buscemi were some of the actors that had been attached at various times.
Thurber is a director of commercials, notably with a comedic bent, who made a big splash into feature comedy with 2004’s Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, which grossed $114 million domestically. Then he switched gears, tackling an adaptation of the Michael Chabon novel The Mysteries of Pittsburgh.
Millers will mark CAA-repped Thurber’s return to feature comedy.
