#PretaPostcards: Rebecca Hessel Cohen Channels Her Free-Spirited Style in Tulum
The LoveShackFancy founder takes her dreamy designs to the beach.
You can’t mention Tulum without using the word "bohemian" in the same breath, so it makes total sense that Rebecca Hessel Cohen, founder and creative director of vintage-inspired ready-to-wear line LoveShackFancy, was right at home in the Mexican beach town.
Hessel Cohen — whose ethereal, hand-dyed pieces are beloved by the likes of Sienna Miller, Elle Fanning and Gwyneth Paltrow — makes an annual pilgrimage to Tulum with her family to recharge her batteries at the Coqui Coqui hotel. But this winter, the designer had a different reason to head south: to celebrate the nuptials of one of her best friends at the beachfront Hotel Esencia.
“The bride and I literally only packed LSF for the ultimate beach wedding weekend — it was all the two of us wore, we couldn't get enough,” says the mother of two. “It was especially amazing to see the bride in a different LoveShackFancy outfit for every event, including all the lunches and even on the sand. Seeing this for an entire weekend was a dream come true.”
Here, the designer, whose swoon-worthy line was picked up at Barneys just in time for festival season, shares snaps from her vacation.
Coqui Coqui is still one of my favorite locations in all of Tulum! So chic with a beautiful, neutral palette. They have a perfumeria and also an adorable little boutique. We usually stay in the beachside room and wake up to the sun rising over the ocean.
There are some adorable little stores that opened up recently, many of them near Coqui Coqui and Gitano — two of the best places in Tulum. This is an adorable little shop down an alley near Gitano that I recently discovered, a lot of great local finds from local designers.
My favorite restaurant in Tulum is Posada Margherita. They have the most delicious homemade pastas and fresh seafood. It’s incredible. They also have an adorable little boutique that I love, and they stock some LoveShackFancy pieces every year. It’s amazing for long lazy lunches on the beach or romantic little dinners. They also have an amazing breakfast.
On this recent trip our friends had their rehearsal dinner at Gitano, which was beautiful — so magical. They have chandeliers in the trees, a disco ball hanging, and it's totally gypsy jungle heaven.
The rehearsal dinner for my friend's wedding was at Gitano and it was perfection.
My daughter Scarlett and I were in our closest family friend’s wedding at Hotel Esencia. This is a photo of us about to walk down the aisle — she was the most perfect little flower girl! We designed all the bridesmaids dresses as custom LoveShackFancy dresses. It was quite beautiful to see. The wedding itself was perfection, and to seeing all the girls dance and love their dresses so much, I honestly couldn't have asked for anything more. It was a special trip for us because I had just given birth three weeks earlier to my second baby girl, so it was great to spend quality time with my older daughter.
This is the photo of [Scarlett] waking up the next morning, still in her dress from the wedding, running outside to see the gorgeous beach.
Scarlett is the ultimate beach babe. A total LoveShack girl, as you can see from this photo. Nothing better than waking up on the beach every morning. It’s the best thing about Tulum.
