Prime Focus bows London upgrade
EmptyPrime Focus London has launched its renovated and improved facility, underscoring growth plans that include an outsourcing business model to India.
The London-based postproduction and visual effects company — a business under the VTR Plc. banner — was formed last year when Mumbai-headquartered Prime Focus acquired and merged London post/VFX companies Clear, the Hive and VTR.
Prime Focus continues to look for additional acquisitions in the U.K. and the U.S., Prime Focus London managing director Simon Huhtala said.
In addition to servicing local film and television clients, the goal for Prime Focus London is to serve as a portal for outsourcing tasks to the parent company's India facilities that employ about 750 people. The international push is primarily geared toward feature work, while the London business includes a high concentration of advertising clients.
The now-completed Prime Focus London facility represents a new investment of £3 million ($6.04 million) in post and visual effects technology. This includes a new Spirit 4K scanner from Thomson's Grass Valley, upgrades to 12 Autodesk compositing systems and an Autodesk Lustre color-grading system. The U.K. facility includes a CGI unit, 12 VFX suites and five color grading/digital intermediate-style suites.
Work would be shared with Prime Focus' India facilities using a high-speed pipeline.
