Prince Phillip Hospitalized With Bladder Infection During Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee

The prince -- who turns 91 on Sunday -- was taken to London's King Edward VII Hospital "as a precautionary measure after developing a bladder infection, which is being accessed and treated," said Buckingham Palace in a statement via CNN.

He will remain there "for a few days," forcing him to miss a concert featuring Paul McCartney on Monday night and a carriage cavalcade with a luncheon on Tuesday. "He is, understandably, disappointed," the palace said.

The Diamond Jubilee kicked off this weekend with a grand procession of boats on the river Thames, drawing a majority share of U.K. viewers to the BBC telecast. Prince Phillip joined Queen Elizabeth as she nodded and waved at the crowd gathered to celebrate the 60th anniversary of her coronation.

Last December, Phillip was hospitalized over Christmas after suffering a blocked coronary artery.

He married Elizabeth in 1947 -- when she was just a princess and he a prince of Greece and Denmark. They have four children -- Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Andrew -- and eight grandchildren who include, most famously, Prince William and Prince Harry.
