Pusan International Film Festival to Update Busan Spelling This Year
Korea's largest port city has been known as Busan since 2000.
SEOUL – The spelling of Pusan International Film Festival will be changed to Busan International Film Festival starting this year. The festival organizers decided in their annual meeting last week that the festival, which was named before the country’s romanization took place in 2000, will be changed.
“Brisbane International Film Festival is also abbreviated as BIFF but several other festivals also use the same name,” the festival organizer told the Yonhap News Agency, explaining that the festival's reputation is stable enough that its name will not cause any major confusion.
The festival maintained their original spelling for 15 years. Meanwhile, the festival website will be connected both by searching PIFF and BIFF on Internet.
