Film financier QED International is getting into the television business, funding the new production company Manolin Entertainment.

Cal Boyington, a veteran agent who led alternative television efforts at Paradigm, is leaving the agency to become CEO of Manolin.

Headed by CEO Bill Block, QED has funded theatricals including Peter Jackson's upcoming "District 9" for Sony. Manolin represents an outgrowth of its new QED TV division.

"QED TV has been set up as a creative, innovative and aggressive television production company that operates on a flexible business plan that allows us to partner with the best cutting-edge executives in the evolving television landscape," Block said.

Boyington will look to develop TV properties across a range of formats, particularly reality programming. At Paradigm, he packaged numerous unscripted TV series, including ABC's "The Next Best Thing." Before Paradigm, Boyington worked at ICM and King World Prods.

Said Boyington, "Bill has put together a terrific team at QED, and I'm honored to partner up with them in this new endeavor."
