Quebec multiplex workers join IATSE ranks

TORONTO -- Increasing its reach into French-speaking Quebec, IATSE said Wednesday that 55 employees at AMC's Forum 22 multiplex in Montreal have joined IATSE local 262.

The U.S.-based union filed a certification request in August to represent eight projectionists and 47 front-of-house employees at the province's largest multiplex, which anchors the Forum, the former home of the Montreal Canadiens hockey club.

AMC did not oppose the successful certification process with the Quebec labor board.

Earlier this year, the U.S. union made a successful play for technician jobs on Hollywood shoots in Quebec in a showdown with the Alliance quebecoise des techniciens de l'image et du son (AQTIS), which represents Quebec's behind-the-camera technicians.

IATSE ended a long-running turf war with AQTIS when it secured the right for local IATSE members to work on studio shoots in Quebec.
