Though the people of Cleveland were clearly interested in Queen's arena-rocking hit, it's unclear whether the spike in Shazams means people did or did not recognize the popular track.

With the Republican National Convention underway in Cleveland this week, the city has seen dramatic uptick in its Shazam usage, the music discovery app tells Billboard

While the Rock and Roll Capital of the World is typically Shazam's No. 26 market, it rose to No. 5 on that list when Queen's hit "We Are the Champions" was played for the GOP convention's opening-night introductions on Monday.

"Shazam activity during cultural milestones like the GOP convention reflect how our data has become a great barometer of music's influence on current events," said James A. Pearson, vp global communications, Shazam. "It also illustrates how these 'Shazam Spikes' can reflect wide audience behavior."

Though the people of Cleveland were clearly interested in Queen's arena-rocking hit, it's unclear whether the spike in Shazams means people did or did not recognize the popular track.

Meanwhile, the band itself was not happy that their song was used and issued a statement saying the "unauthorised use at the Republican Convention against our wishes." This follows continued uses on Trump's campaign without permission.
