Rachel Weisz to Star in Terence Davies' 'The Deep Blue Sea'
Tom Hiddleston and Simon Russell Beale also are starring in the story of a privileged housewife in 1950s London society who leaves her husband for a young ex-RAF pilot.
Rachel Weisz, Tom Hiddleston and Olivier Award-winning actor Simon Russell Beale are plunging into Terence Davies' The Deep Blue Sea.
The movie, being sold at AFM by Protagonist Pictures, is scheduled to shoot in and around London for five weeks starting this month.
An adaptation by Davies of the Terence Rattigan play of the same name, Deep Blue Sea details the story of a privileged housewife in 1950s London society who leaves her husband (Beale) for a young ex-RAF pilot. Weisz plays the wife, Hiddleston the former pilot.
The movie's tapestry of backers includes Film4, the U.K. Film Council, Lipsync Prods., Protagonist Pictures, Fulcrum Media Finance and U.K. distributor Artificial Eye, which will release the film in the U.K. in 2011.
Next year marks the centenary of the birth of Rattigan, one of the most celebrated playwrights of the 20th century.
Davies wowed audiences in Cannes in 2008 with Of Time and the City, his documentary portrait of his hometown of Liverpool.
