Rachel Zoe Hosts Runway Show, Talks This Season's Best Trends
Following a packed "Live the Look" event at South Coast Plaza, we caught up with the fashion mogul to talk fashion. Duh.
"You’re going to want everything. I already do — it’s kind of a disaster."
Rachel Zoe's definition of disaster is, obviously, the very best kind of retail therapy scene, and that's exactly what she was explaining while seated center stage at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, Calif., right before a parade of luxury runway ensembles for the "Live the Look" event on Oct. 8 at Orange County’s premier high-end shopping destination.
Zoe hosted the event (in partnership with The Hollywood Reporter) and performed her brand of lively and charming commentary on the runway looks. Think chic, fabulous, show-stopping or all of the above. Barbara Bui, Brunello Cucinelli, Charlotte Olympia, Fendi, Lanvin, Max Mara, Oscar de la Renta, Ralph Lauren, Roberto Cavalli, Salvatore Ferragamo and Valentino all were represented during the show, witnessed by more than 500 guests, including South Coast Plaza partner Anton Segerstrom, executive director of marketing Debra Gunn Downing and executive vp and group publisher at The Hollywood Reporter and Billboard Lynne Segall.
"I love it here," said Zoe of South Coast Plaza, where she was joined by one of her two sons, Skyler. "And I hope you enjoy the show."
The crowd certainly did. But what people also love are nuggets of fashion wisdom from the creative brain behind the Rachel Zoe empire, and don’t worry, it's covered. Following a post-show cocktail soiree at South Coast Plaza’s red-hot eatery Marche Moderne, THR snuck in six questions.
The Hollywood Reporter: Tell me about your look tonight.
Rachel Zoe: This is from my resort collection. Super comfortable, you know I love some black and white. It’s kind of business evening, I guess.
How does your spring ready-to-wear 2016 collection differ from your previous collections?
What was so great, it was ruffles and lace and romantic and black and white. Lots of color, too, and embroidery, which for me, is kind of new to play with a lot of color. I loved it and it’s so fun.
During tonight’s fashion show, you mentioned some of the pieces you loved from the recent runway shows. What shows were your favorite?
McQueen! McQueen and Valentino. It was endless. Balmain. Crazy Givenchy. I can’t even get over it.
Any trends that you noticed?
I’m telling you, it was so consistent. Femininity, romanticism, lace, ruffles, winter white, black and white. It was just, like, everywhere. It was like everyone got the same memo.

Your new show, Fashionably Late With Rachel Zoe, on Lifetime is great. Can you give any hints on upcoming guests?
Nicole Richie is on tonight. Rosie [Huntington-Whiteley] and Reese Witherspoon are coming on soon. We have some great guests.
What’s the most surprising thing about hosting your own show?
It’s so fun. It’s not even like working, it’s going in and sitting in a glamorous room in the penthouse of my building and having the best time with great guests and Derek [Blasberg] and my husband [Rodger Berman]. We just laugh the whole time.
