The creative director is exiting the French fashion house after more than three years.

Things we didn't see coming: Raf Simons is exiting Christian Dior after a little over three years at the French fashion house, Pret-a-Reporter has confirmed.

According to WWD, the spring 2016 collection presented under a floral dome during Paris Fashion Week was Simons' last show. Dior told the fashion trade that the designer "reached this decision for personal reasons." His exit is described as "amicable on both sides" after Simons and Dior failed to reach a new agreement on his contract.

Simons issued the statement below to WWD:

"It is after careful and long consideration that I have decided to leave my position as creative director of Christian Dior’s women’s collection. It is a decision based entirely and equally on my desire to focus on other interests in my life, including my own brand, and the passions that drive me outside my work. Christian Dior is an extraordinary company, and it has been an immense privilege to write a few pages of this magnificent book. I want to thank Mr. Bernard Arnault for the trust he has put in me, giving me the incredible opportunity to work at this beautiful house surrounded by the most amazing team one could ever dream of. I have also had the chance over the last few years to benefit from the leadership of Sidney Toledano. His thoughtful, heartfelt and inspired management will also remain as one of the most important experiences of my professional career.”

During Simons' time at Dior, the 47-year-old designer, who was recently named as The Hollywood Reporter's Top 25 Designers of 2015, helped the brand generate $1.7 billion from Christian Dior Couture alone in the fiscal year ending June 30, 2014, making it one of the largest luxury fashion houses in the world.

In 2014, Simons starred in the documentary, Dior and I, which gave viewers a behind-the-scenes look into his first haute couture collection for the label.

Simons' replacement has yet to be announced.
