Grin and Bear It It wasn’t exactly a Siegfried & Roy-style encounter, but it did happen in Vegas. At CinemaCon, Sony worldwide distribution president Rory Bruer brought out an adorable bear cub to present Zookeeper to 4,000 exhibitors — only to have the frightened animal pee all over him. After his speech, Bruer dumped the damp bear in the hands of Sony senior vp media relations Steve Elzer and was soon heard panicking to a concierge, “I need a dry cleaner; a bear pissed on me!” Meanwhile, Elzer caught the cub’s “spare love” and went in search of a dry cleaner himself. “But I’m a publicist,” Elzer tells us. “I’m used to getting pissed on.” No one can say he’s not a good sport: Elzer put a shot of him and the cub as the profile picture on his Facebook page.
Michelle Monaghan, 35, stays in good enough shape to do her own stunts — as she does in Source Code. And she had to do them over and over because the sci-fi film replays the same eight minutes over and over. But for Monaghan, the hardest part wasn’t the stunts. “It was wearing that same blue sweater and black dress every single day of the shoot, for six weeks,” she says. “Now that was really hard.” No wonder she was wearing a hot new Versace to the L.A. premiere.
Former Disney Studios head Dick Cook had to quickly check the Weather Channel app on his iPhone at CinemaCon when Michael Eisner, Jeffrey Katzenberg and Joe Roth — infamous rivals who, at one point or another, were his bosses at Disney — all showed up in one place to honor him. “I thought surely hell had frozen over,” Cook quipped at the Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation dinner, where he received the Pioneer of the Year Award. Katzenberg and Eisner admitted Cook had none of the ego they did, and Roth said he’ll be the first producer on Cook’s doorstep once Cook starts his new company. The goodwill translated into more than $1 million for the foundation’s assistance fund.
