Katie Holmes Bake-Off: The CAA pre-Emmy party at Bouchon on Sept. 16 was really cooking. TV agent Adam Berkowitz, a big Bouchon booster, was leading guests through the kitchen, showing them where they could stop and sample short ribs and tuna tartar. Jeremy Renner, Paula Weinstein, Miley Cyrus, Jerry Bruckheimer, Ryan Seacrest and agents Richard Lovett, Josh Lieberman, Nick Styne and Hylda Queally all stood around nibbling -- while an amused Tom Colicchio, a pal of Bouchon chef/owner Thomas Keller, looked on. Keller commanded the bakery and invited Katie Holmes -- another Bouchon regular -- to help make baguettes and fill macaroons. Afterward, Jeremy Piven, Jamie Foxx, Doug Ellin, Brett Ratner and Chelsea Handler, with hotelier Andre Balazs, repaired to Bar Bouchon for vino and badgered Piven and Ellin about life after Entourage. The last agent standing? Kevin Huvane, who left at 1 a.m.
Pee-wee's Carpet Burn
Sometimes the red carpet gridlock at awards shows just gets to be too much. Choreographer Laurieann Gibson (nominated for directing Lady Gaga's Monster Ball concert movie for HBO) was enjoying posing in front of photographers at the Creative Arts Emmys. That is until ID PR chief Kelly Bush, waiting with client Paul Reubens, grew impatient and started to complain loudly that the line was backed up and people needed to move faster. Suddenly, Gibson stopped, marched up to Bush and asked, "Who exactly are you talking about?" At which point a flustered Bush pointed to a different group of people.
Rocking the Boardwalk
Boardwalk Empire's Aleksa Palladino -- who plays Michael Pitt's bisexual wife on the HBO series -- performed with husband Devon Church under their musical guise Exitmusic at the Silverlake Lounge on Sept. 19. Among the members of the Boardwalk cast who came out to support the guitar-pop duo was Vincent Piazza, who plays Lucky Luciano, with new girlfriend Ashlee Simpson, whom he'd taken to the Boardwalk premiere and HBO Emmy party. Piazza, a former castmember of The Sopranos, was less than rosy about Boardwalk's lack of Emmy wins. "We weren't even featured in Jane Lynch's opening number," he groused.
