'Rambow' retreats from Locarno
EmptyROME -- Garth Jennings' "Son of Rambow," the coming-of-age comedy about two boys who make their own sequel to the film "Rambo," will not screen at the Locarno Film Festival as previously announced, organizers said Thursday.
The festival issued a brief statement saying the film had been withdrawn by distributor Paramount Vantage because of pending litigation. Organizers did not elaborate.
The film had been a late addition to the program released this month in Milan.
Other films on tap for the 60th edition of the lakeside festival, meanwhile, are having better luck, signing foreign distribution deals even before screening in competition.
"Fuori dalla Corde" (Outside the Ropes), an Italian-language drama about a troubled and aging boxer from Swiss director Fulvio Bernasconi, sold its German rights to distributor Media Luna, while Philippe Ramos' "Capitaine Achab" (Captain Ahab), a French story based on Herman Melville's "Moby Dick," sold its rights to France's Wide Management.
Locarno takes place Aug. 1-11.
