Rare James Bond Movie Posters Hit the Auction Block
The auction also includes rare stills, lobby cards, scripts and other notable memorabilia spanning the entire filmography of the world famous secret agent.
They're posters. James Bond posters.
What's touted as the "most comprehensive collection" of James Bond movie posters to hit the collector's market goes up for auction Dec. 15 and 16 in Los Angeles.
Noted Hollywood auction house Profiles in History, run by Syfy's Hollywood Treasure host, Joe Maddalena, has put together an impressive collection of rare movie posters, stills, lobby cards, scripts, pressbooks and other notable memorabilia from every film starring the world's most famous secret agent.
The James Bond movie poster collection alone is estimated to bring in more than $200,000.
"This is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for any fan of James Bond to acquire rare Bond movie posters that may never reach the market again," Maddalena told The Hollywood Reporter. "What makes this auction so special is that this collector acquired these posters over a tremendous span of his life. A collector will essentially have the opportunity to bypass many years of searching and find all these posters together in our once-in-a-lifetime auction."
Some of the rare poster highlights include a Dr. No special advance silkscreen U.K. double crown poster from 1962, arguably the very first James Bond film poster to appear in public; From Russia With Love world premiere advance U.K. quad poster from 1963, possibly the rarest of all theatrical release James Bond posters; and a Goldfinger U.K. advance double crown poster (style A) from 1964, considered one of the great rarities of James Bond poster collecting.
Recently, there's been a spate of high-profile Hollywood auctions. Last month, Joan Crawford's best actress Oscar won for her role in Mildred Pierce sold for $426,732 at auction through Los Angeles-based auctioneer Nate D. Sanders. Next month, Judy Garland's famous blue-and-white dress from The Wizard of Oz is going up for auction through Julien's Auctions in Beverly Hills, where it is expected to fetch a half a million dollars or more.
