Ray Rice Scandal: NFL Taps Ex-FBI Director to Investigate
Rooney Mara's uncles will also be involved
The NFL is opening an investigation into what it knew — and when — regarding the video which showed running back Ray Rice knocking out his then-fiancée in a casino elevator.
The league announced Wednesday night that ex-FBI director Robert Mueller will head up the investigation, with New York Giants owner John Mara and Pittsburgh Steelers President Art Rooney overseeing. Mara and Rooney are both uncles to actresses Kate Mara and Rooney Mara.
Commissioner Roger Goodell has pledged his support to the investigation.
The league has denied an Associated Press report stating the NFL was sent a copy of the video five months ago. Rice was fired from the Baltimore Ravens and suspended indefinitely from the NFL Monday after video emerged of him punching Janay Palmer, whom he has since married.
Since then, critics have questioned whether team or league officials knew what was on the video, and if so, when.
