RealD Partners With U.K. Charity MediCinema for Hospital Installations
The 3D technology licenser extends its partnership with MediCinema to install its technology in hospitals across the U.K.
LONDON – RealD, a leading global licensor of 3D technologies, has extended its partnership with MediCinema, a charity working in the health and film sectors, to kit out screens.
The first phase in the deal will see seven hospitals in the U.K. equipped with MediCinemas featuring RealD 3D.
MediCinema aims to improve the difficult circumstances of being in hospital or places of care for patients and their families by bringing them cinematic experiences through permanent on-site cinemas.
RealD and MediCinema have already teams to equip the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow and the Defense Medical Rehabilitation Centre at Headley Court in Epsom among others.
Upcoming installations include St. Thomas’ Hospital, Guy’s Hospital and Chelsea & Westminster Hospital all three of which are in London.
RealD Europe managing director Robert Mayson said: "The addition of our premium 3D technology to these cinemas is the perfect way for patients to immerse themselves in the action, in the comfort and convenience of the MediCinema surroundings."
MediCinema CEO Stephen Moore said that by partnering with RealD, "we are able to provide an even better screening experience, show a greater range of 3D films and offer more enjoyment for our patients, away from regular hospital life."
