RealD to Receive Producers Guild's Vanguard Award
The company's CEO and co-founder Michael Lewis along with president and co-founder Joshua Greer will accept the award.
Looking at the future through polarized glasses, the Producers Guild of America is giving its 2011 Vanguard Award to RealD, the tech company that licenses 3D technology to movie theaters and home entertainment systems.
The award will be presented to RealD chairman, CEO and co-founder Michael Lewis and president and co-founder Joshua Greer at the 22nd annual PGA ceremony on Jan. 22 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
The Vanguard Award recognizes achievements in new media and technology. Previous recipients have included George Lucas, James Cameron and John Lasseter.
“A global leader in the 3D space, RealD has not only delivered the most innovative technologies but also has made a commitment to provide quality entertainment for a premium viewing experience,” said Paula Wagner, chair of the 2011 Producers Guild Awards.
About 9,300 RealD 3D-enabled screens have been installed in movie theaters worldwide, and its technology is used by 17 of the world’s largest 18 exhibitors.
This year, a record 22 films were released in RealD 3D, and about 32 are scheduled to hit theaters next year.
