Redford to keynote Mobile Backstage
EmptyRobert Redford will headline Mobile Backstage, a special one-day mobile entertainment conference produced by the GSM Assn. and the Nielsen Co., parent company of The Hollywood Reporter.
Redford will participate in a keynote interview at the event, set for Feb. 13 at the National Palace in Barcelona, Spain, which is part of the GSMA's Mobile World Congress. The Oscar winner and Sundance founder will focus on the potential for independent filmmakers to use mobile devices to reach a global audience.
"The energy and opportunity that this event presents, not just for business but for artists and their work, makes it particularly exciting for me," Redford said. "The GSMA continues to take seriously both the business of delivering content and the art of creating content as they lead the exciting mobile sector into the future."
Said Bill Gajda, chief marketing officer of the GSMA: "We are thrilled and honored to announce this rare keynote appearance by a screen legend. As a champion of independent artists and their work, and as an advocate of innovation and risk-taking in the film world, we can expect some forthright, refreshing and somewhat unexpected insights for the mobile world, especially in terms of opportunities for cinematic-quality film on the small screen."
Besides the keynote interview, Redford also will appear at the GSMA Global Mobile Awards on Feb. 12, where he will introduce the GSMA's mobile entertainment category.
The Mobile World Congress attracts more than 50,000 mobile trade professionals annually. This year's convention will be held Feb. 11-14 at the Fira de Barcelona. More details.
