Reese Witherspoon Arrest Footage Goes Online (Video)
The actress claims to be pregnant, while her husband, Jim Toth, apologizes to a police officer for her behavior.
Footage from Reese Witherspoon’s arrest has surfaced online in a video confirming previous accounts of what the actress said during the April 19 incident.
The TMZ-obtained footage shows the Oscar-winning actress and her husband, CAA agent Jim Toth, after being pulled over by police in Atlanta.
On Thursday, May 2, Toth pled guilty to DUI and Witherspoon pled no contest to physical obstruction.
In the video, Witherspoon approached the arresting officer as he dealt with Toth.
"I'm an American citizen ... I'm allowed to stand on American ground and ask any question that I want to ask,” she said.
After warning her to sit down, the officer handcuffed Witherspoon as she continued to tout her status as an “American citizen” and accused the officer of “harassing” her.
Witherspoon asked the officer if he knew her name, and said, “You’re about to find out who I am,” when he responded that he didn’t.
Toth apologized to the officer after his wife was handcuffed and had settled down.
“I'm sorry, I had nothing to do with that,” Toth said of Witherspoon’s outburst.
Off camera, Witherspoon later told the officer she was pregnant and needed to use the restroom.
Witherspoon apologized for her behavior on Thursday, May 2, on ABC’s Good Morning America. In a sit-down with George Stephanopoulos, the actress said she “literally panicked” when she saw her husband was being arrested and told the officer “all kinds of crazy things.”
“I told him I was pregnant -- I'm not pregnant!” Witherspoon said on GMA. “And if you only hear me laughing (it's) because I have no idea what I was talking about. And I'm so sorry. I was so disrespectful to him and I have police officers in my family. I work with police officers every day. I know better and it's just unacceptable."
On Thursday, May 2, Witherspoon pled no contest to physical obstruction for disobeying the officer's order to stay in the car after Toth was pulled over. Toth pled guilty to the charge of driving under the influence. Witherspoon will pay a $213 fine, while Toth will perform 40 hours of community service and attend an alcohol education program. He received 12 months of probation.
