Relativity EuropaCorp Taps Tommy Gargotta to Lead Theatrical Marketing
He replaces Russell Schwartz, who left last November, and will oversee 'The Transporter Refueled' and other pictures.
Former Sony Pictures exec Tommy Gargotta was named president of theatrical marketing on Thursday for Relativity EuropaCorp., the joint venture between Relativity Media and EuropaCorp, which was founded by producer-director Luc Besson.
In making the announcement, Relativity president Tucker Tooley and EuropaCorp CEP Christophe Lambert indicated Gargotta will oversee marketing for upcoming movies, including EuropaCorp's The Transporter Refueled (opening June 19); Shut-In, starring Naomi Watts (Feb. 19, 2016); The Lake, starring Oscar-winner J.K. Simmons and Sullivan Stapleton (July 15, 2016); and Nine Lives, starring Kevin Spacey.
Upcoming Relativity movies include Masterminds starring Zach Galifianakis, Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis (Aug. 7), Kidnap starring Halle Berry (Oct. 9) and Autobahn starring Nicholas Hoult, Felicity Jones, Anthony Hopkins and Ben Kingsley. (Oct. 30).
He replaces Russell Schwarz, who left the post last November, in the wake of disappointing results for Beyond The Lights, The Best of Me and other pictures.
"Tommy," said Tooley, "brings a remarkable track record to his new role, and his creative instincts and marketing acumen are the best in the business."
"Tommy," said Lambert, "one of the most creative executives in our industry, is the perfect person to oversee marketing for our distribution company and connect our slates with audiences in an increasingly fragmented marketplace."

Gargotta spent the last 13 years at Sony Pictures Entertainment, most recently as president of worldwide creative advertising. He worked on such films as S.W.A.T., 50 First Dates, The Da Vinci Code, Michael Jackson's This Is It, Salt and 22 Jump Street.
He also helped create advertising materials for the James Bond movies Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace and Skyfall. Prior to Sony, Gargotta was vp and creative director at Intralink Film Graphic Design, and head editor and producer at Trailer Park, Inc.
