Remstar Films Inks Canadian Movie Distribution Deal With Entertainment One
The three-year deal will see eOne release films from Montreal's Rémillard brothers in all media, excluding theatrical, VOD and French-language TV in Quebec.
TORONTO – Quebec’s Remstar Films has reached out to rival Canadian indie distributor Entertainment One to exclusively distribute its movies, mostly in English-speaking Canada.
The three-year agreement will see eOne handle product from Montreal-based Remstar in all media in Canada, excluding theatrical, VOD and French-language TV rights in Quebec.
Remstar, a film producer and distributor, is run by Maxime and Julienne Rémillard, the sons of Montreal waste management giant Lucien Rémillard.
Their theatrical credits include Polytechnique, Funkytown, Battle in Seattle and Head in the Clouds, which starred Charlize Theron and Penelope Cruz.
“Remstar continues to focus on bringing premium films to Canadian audiences and with eOne’s proven track record, we’re eager to now offer our quality features to a coast to coast audience,” Maxime Rémillard said in a statement.
The tie-up comes amid a rapid change for the Canadian film distribution market, with Maple Pictures acquired by Alliance Films, which along with eOne have now been put on the auction block by their respective financial backers.
