Dress du Jour: Renee Zellweger Spectacular in Schiaparelli Blue
Bridget Jones is back.
The Look: A single-shoulder, midnight-blue silk satin gabardine gown with an unicorn zebra embellishment from Schiaparelli Haute Couture's fall 2016 collection designed by Bertrand Guyon.
The Wearer: Renee Zellweger, who appeared on the cover of The Hollywood Reporter's Sept. 9 issue.
The Event: At the Bridget Jones's Baby world premiere in London, where co-stars Colin Firth and Patrick Dempsey also walked the bright pink carpet. The sequel to Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004) and Bridget Jones's Diary (2001) sees Zellweger reprise her role as the film's titular character.
Why It Matters: Ever since Zellweger made a red-carpet comeback in 2014 after a years-long hiatus from Hollywood, there's been non-stop plastic surgery speculations and criticisms about her appearance. So much so that she penned an op-ed last month writing, "Maybe we could talk more about our many true societal challenges and how we can do better." However, despite the negative attention she's received, her latest red-carpet appearance deserves celebrating. The dress strikes the perfect balance between sophisticated and playful with the zebra brooch standing out against the otherwise plain midnight blue hue. The single, sculptural shoulder is offset by the skirt's side slit. Zellweger kept it simple with black strappy sandals, a glowing complexion and rosy pink pout.
