Wassername gets publicity
The Last Man on Earth’s Kristen Schaal has signed with PMK•BNC. The actress and comedian currently plays Will Forte’s new wife and (almost) the Last Woman on Earth on the Fox freshman hit, and voices Louise Belcher on the network’s Bob’s Burgers. She also appeared opposite Robert Redford and Nick Nolte in the Sundance dramedy A Walk in the Woods this January and starred with Casey Wilson and Angela Kinsey in the first season of Hulu’s Hotwives satire last summer. The comedian’s other memorable roles include new NBC page Hazel Wassername on 30 Rock and stalker-ish fan Mel on HBO’s Flight of the Conchords.
You’ll know her soon enough
Star Wars: Episode VII star Daisy Ridley has signed with 42West. The British actress was a virtual newcomer when she landed one of Hollywood’s most coveted projects, in which she’ll be playing the female lead named Rey, who may or may not be Han and Leia’s daughter.
Bolstering their sports and fashion holdings
Olympic champion swimmer Missy Franklin has signed with WME | IMG for worldwide marketing. At the 2012 Games in London, she won four gold medals (two individual backstroke medals and two for relays) and picked up a bronze medal as part of the United States’ 4x100m freestyle relay team. Just 19 years old, Franklin turned pro just days after leading her University of California at Berkeley squad to the NCAA women’s team championship (where she set a U.S. record in the 200-yard freestyle race). “What WME and IMG have built across the last year is really dynamic, and I feel like it’s the right fit for me as I turn professional,” said Franklin, whose team will be led by IMG Clients senior vice president Mark Ervin. “My focus in the pool is going to be pushing myself day in and day out, and I know that my new team at WME | IMG will help me use the platform I have been given to make a difference.”
WME | IMG has also acquired MADE Fashion Week, an event that showcases emerging designers. Since September 2009, it has featured labels including Altuzarra, Cushnie et Ochs, Public School, Proenza Schouler, Jeremy Scott, Sophie Theallet, Ohne Titel and Alexander Wang. MADE Fashion Week’s Spring 2016 shows will take place in September at the same time as New York Fashion Week, which IMG has owned since 2001. “This acquisition creates new opportunities for all our designers and partners to grow and evolve their businesses not only during fashion week in New York, but globally throughout the year,” IMG Fashion Events & Properties senior vp and managing director Catherine Bennett said in a statement. Said MADE founder Keith Baptista, who along with the rest of the leadership team will stay on and continue to operate the series as a separate entity: “As part of the WME | IMG family, MADE will expand its reach and remain on the front line of fostering new talent and encouraging bold new voices.”
Another funny guy for its roster
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon staff writer Mike Drucker has signed with UTA. He was nominated for an Emmy last year alongside the rest of The Tonight Show’s writing team, and has been with Fallon since his Late Night days. As a stand-up comic himself, Drucker was part of the 2012 “New Faces of Comedy” class at Montreal’s respected Just For Laughs festival.
A future New Face of Comedy?
Vine personality CeCe Price has signed with The Green Room for management. The five-year-old from Louisiana has more than 434,000 followers on her Vine account, Thececeshow, and 645,000 on Instagram, and is also part of Floyd Mayweather’s The Money Team.
