Retail Report: A.P.C. Lands on Melrose Place

We go inside the French cult brand's new digs — and spotlight the pieces to geek out over this summer.

Melrose Place is reclaiming its destination status, one boutique and beauty haven at a time. Following in the footsteps of recent arrivals The Row by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, one-stop beauty shop Violet Grey, and the announcement that Salon Nine Zero One is expanding to the stony stretch, French clothing brand A.P.C. has landed on the street (8420 Melrose Place) after shuttering its doors on Croft Avenue.

Straddling Melrose Avenue and Melrose Place (with entrances on both streets), the U-shaped 2,500-square-foot space is equal parts Parisian chic and Los Angeles cool — think a sun-drenched courtyard landscaped with succulents, and ceramic brick that pays homage to its Hispanic roots). Rubbing shoulders with fellow Parisian brand Isabel Marant’s flagship, the new location is designed collaboratively between A.P.C. founder Jean Touitou and French architect Laurent Deroo, who has applied his minimalist touch to a handful of A.P.C. stores worldwide, and also gets credit for the Coppola family’s tropical getaway in Belize, Turtle Inn Beach House.

Famous fans of the brand, including Alexa Chung, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Kirsten Dunst and Kanye West (who debuted a capsule denim collection for the company last year), can stock up on the latest men's and women's ready-to-wear including this summer’s best-sellers, such as the women’s half-moon bag ($425) and the effortlessly chic Napoli dress ($415). Can’t get enough of the A.P.C. aesthetic? Take home quilts and cushions ($105 to $1,105) and ultra-fragrant candles ($45).

And Eastside fans of the brand, rejoice: A.P.C. locations in Silver Lake and downtown Los Angeles are in the works.
