Retrospective awaits Luna at Malaga
EmptyMADRID -- Spanish director Bigas Luna will be honored at the 10th annual Malaga Film Festival with a retrospective of his work and will receive the festival's El Pais award on March 16, festival organizers announced Thursday.
Luna is widely known for the actresses he has discovered and directed, including Penelope Cruz, Leonor Watling, Angela Molina, Aitana Sanchez-Gijon, Maribel Verdu and Maria de Medeiros.
Luna's filmography includes the Iberian trilogy "Jamon, Jamon," "Huevos de Oro" and "La Teta y la Luna" as well as "La Camerera del Titanic," "Son de Mar," "Voleverunt" and his most recent work, "Yo Soy La Juani."
The Malaga festival, which runs March 9-17 in Antonio Banderas' hometown on the Mediterranean coast, previously announced it will honor Spanish actress and early Pedro Almodovar muse Carmen Maura with the Malaga Prize, a lifetime achievement award.
