The CW's Marketing Chief Rick Haskins Staying Put With Expanded Duties
Haskins will become the executive vice president of marketing and digital programs, where his responsibilities will now include developing and producing original content for all of the network's digital platforms.
The CW's marketing chief Rick Haskins will be staying put after all.
The network's longtime marketing chief will remain with the network in the newly created position of executive vice president of marketing and digital programs, where his duties will now include developing and producing original content for all of the network's digital platforms as well as his overseeing the network's marketing efforts.
After news broke last spring that the network veteran would be leaving his post this summer, he spent months exploring other options. Ultimately, he says he found nothing as compelling as the opportunity that CW offered. The CW cheif executive Mark Pedowitz made it that much more appealing by adding creative responsibilities to his purview. Specifically, Haskins will work with the creative community to develop and produce new entertainment content tailored for the network's other platforms, including online, mobile and social media.
"I like the target audience, I like the programming and I like the attitude that we have that we want to be first in the marketplace in trying new and different things," says Haskins. "We’ve always been up to exploring what;s next, and to me that's exciting."
And as he sees it, the options are plenty. "To me, what’s cool is it can be long form or short form; it could be daiy or weekly," he adds, noting that he's considered such things as a five-minute daily show, something that a traditional TV platform wouldn't allow.
In addition to creating new digital programming, he will also work closely with The CW’s creative executives and producers to develop digital extensions of the network’s series including Gossip Girl and Vampire Diaries, both of which have some 10 million Facebook fans. He will also continue to lead all aspects of the network’s marketing and digital initiatives, as he has done since the network’s inception.
"Under his creative direction and leadership, his team has shaped a clear, distinct brand for The CW in an incredibly competitive media landscape, and we are thrilled that he will continue to be a part of The CW family for years to come,” says Pedowitz. “Rick is also our foremost authority in the digital space, helping us extend The CW’s presence across different digital platforms, so it only makes sense that he oversee our foray into creating and producing original CW content for online, mobile and social media.”
