Ricky Gervais Launches iPhone App
The actor-comedian announces his latest project, Just Sayin'.
Ricky Gervais is heading into the tech world.
The British actor-comedian has launched a voice conversation iPhone app called Just Sayin', The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Created in partnership with voice technology company CloudTalk, the free app allows consumers to speak to one another within social media and share voice, text, photos and video to their Facebook and Twitter profiles.
“Just Sayin’ is to radio what Twitter is to newsprint — I’m just sayin’!” said Gervais, credited as Just Sayin' partner and creative director, in a statement announcing his latest project.
Just Sayin' was born when founder David Hayden and Gervais teamed up earlier this year to develop the new app and its direction.
“Making the human voice a natural part of any social web experience is the next big thing," said Gervais. “Voice as a monologue is narcissistic, voice as a dialogue is social; social media is a place where people desire to be both.”
Said Hayden: “Voice has been the missing link to a person’s online persona. Social media interaction is widely silent and we know text has its limitations, sentiments can be difficult to express in 140 characters.”
Features include one-to-one/one-to-many conversations using voice, real-time notifications when someone a consumer is following posts or replies to a post and cross-posting on Facebook and Twitter. The Just Sayin' app is compatible with the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.
Gervais, a blogger, podcaster and web series guru, launched a new Internet-based show Learn English With Ricky Gervais earlier this summer.
