'Ride Along 2' Gets Release Date
Kevin Hart and Ice Cube return for Universal's comedy sequel.
Ride Along 2 will drive into theaters on Friday, January 15, 2016, Universal announced Thursday.
The sequel will see the return of stars Kevin Hart and Ice Cube as a security guard and an Atlanta cop, respectively. Tim Story will return to direct the comedy.
Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi are writing the script, and Cube, Will Packer, Matt Alvarez and Larry Brezner will produce.
The first film had a record-breaking opening weekend when it debuted over the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. It opened over the January four-day holiday weekend to $48.6 million, beating 2008's Cloverfield ($46.1 million). Costing a modest $25 million to make and nabbing an A CinemaScore, the film stayed in the No. 1 spot for three weeks straight and has earned $130.6 million domestically to date.
The only other release slated for that 2016 date is another sequel: animated film The Nut Job 2.
