PARIS – With Hollywood hanging out at Sunday's Oscars, music turned out for the Givenchy show with Rihanna, Angel Haze, Beth Ditto and Kanye West (without Kim Kardashian) in the front row, alongside French fashion editors Carine Roitfeld and Olivier Zahm.
Rihanna and Prometheus actress Noomi Rapace arrived wearing similar blazers with thick red-and-white stripes, though Rihanna dressed hers up with a formal baseball cap from the men’s collection shown in January.
Held in the cavernous auditorium in the utilitarian 13th arrondissement that the brand has made its home the past few seasons, the house held the show for the two late arrivals. For the crowd, it was worth the wait, as the audience oohed at the first soft printed dresses before bold suits broke up the sweetness. After the show, West declared it “awesome.”
The musician, who has been outspoken recently about the fashion world, praised designer Riccardo Tisci. “He’s my good friend. It was an amazing show, and he always inspires me,” West told Pret-a-Reporter.
Rapace , also a Givenchy regular, came out to support her good friend “Ricky,” though she nearly lost her voice from a week of several shows and little sleep. “It’s been very hectic, very intense,” she said, after attending shows for Roland Mouret and Lanvin over the last few days. “I respect artists and I just enjoy watching people that work really hard and see what they come up with.” In addition to her Givenchy suit, she sported ruby earplugs, just “something Ricky did for me.”
Ditto hit the show after presenting in the music category at the Cesar Awards on Friday night. “I couldn’t understand a lot of what was going on and it’s hard to sit still for four hours, but it was fun. It was an eye into a world you don’t see very often,” she said, comparing it to music award shows. "Music ones are more wild and have much stronger personalities."
“I enjoy the fashion industry more than the music industry,” said the singer, who designed her own line of plus-size clothing in 2009. She said she has no immediate plans to design again.
West made a quick dash backstage, where soon-to-be sister-in-law Kendall Jenner was also hanging out after the show. Jenner was the darling of Fashion Week in New York and London runways before making her Paris debut, taking the prestigious second-to-last spot of the show against seasoned supermodels Frankie Rayder and Stella Tennant.
And why did Kim Kardashian skip the show, even though she was expected to attend? “She’s just hanging out,” West said. Kim revealed on Twitter that she stayed at the hotel to take care of baby North West.
