Robert Downey Jr. and his wife, film producer Susan Downey, are expecting their first child together, according to published reports.
"Robert and Susan could not be more excited over this news. They can't wait to welcome this new baby into their wonderful family," Downey Jr.'s spokesperson told People. The baby is due early next year.
The 46-year-old Iron Man star, who was nominated for an Academy Award for Chaplin and Tropic Thunder, and his wife met while on the set of Gothika in 2003 and married two years later. He has credited his wife for helping him recover from alcohol and drug problems that plagued him early in his career.
Downey Jr. has a teenage son, Indio Falconer Downey, from a previous marriage to Deborah Falconer, with whom he was married for 11 years. The couple divorced in 2004.
He is currently reprising his role as Iron Man in the upcoming Joss Whedon feature The Avengers, set for release next year.
