The co-host of the top-rated morning news show made an appearance via video on Monday, explaining the process that will eventually see her back in the studio.

Robin Roberts is back on GMA time.” Soon, she'll be back in the studio, too.

The Good Morning America co-host, who has been out of commission since September while battling MDS, a rare bone marrow and blood disorder, appeared via satellite on the show Monday to tell her castmates that she is coming home. Her most recent tests came back clear of any abnormalities, and so Roberts is now beginning to take the many small, cautious steps required to resume her normal day-to-day life.

“I should be back sometime in February,” Roberts said. “Now I have a date in mind that's very personal and very important to me, but I will ultimately listen to, of course, what my doctors say, and we have to remember we're in the height of flu season. There's a lot of factors still.”

The first step is waking up at 4:00 am, something she admitted that she did not miss. Next week, she'll head to the studio and prepare as normal for the show, but not go on air. It'll be a test run to see how she handles the stress of work, the withering lights and contact with a germ-filled studio.

Roberts likened the process to an athlete going through physical rehab after an injury. It's more than just an analogy; Roberts is a Hall of Fame college basketball player.
