Robin Williams' Final Film 'Boulevard' to Open Ischia Global Fest
Guests include Helen Mirren, Antonio Banderas, Taylor Hackford and Jimmy Kimmel.
Robin Williams' last movie, Boulevard, will have its European premiere opening the Ischia Global Film and Music Festival on July 12.
In Boulevard, Williams plays a married bank employee whose encounter with a young hustler forces him to face his repressed homosexuality. The film is directed by Dito Montiel (A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints) and also stars Bob Odenkirk and Kathy Baker. It played at the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival and will be released July 10 in the U.S.
“We are proud to inaugurate the festival with a long-awaited work,” announced the festival’s director Pascal Vicedomini. “The first trailer of this movie — recently launched on the web — has touched the hearts of millions of fans who will soon commemorate the first anniversary of Williams’ passing on August 11.”
Mario Martone’s Leopardi, which received film of the year at the Nastri D’Argento awards, will take home Italian Movie of the Year in Ischia. The fest will host a special screening on July 17.
Other films making their way to Ischia include the Sundance hit Ten Thousand Saints, directed by Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini, Doug Ellin’s Entourage, Paul Feig’s Spy and James Kent’s Testament of Youth.
Also in the lineup: Francesca Gregorini’s The Truth About Emanuel, Alessandro Capone’s Maid for You, and Alex Garland’s Ex Machina. Whitney Houston will be honored with a career retrospective, and Denmark will be the focus of a global cinema series.
The 13th Ischia Global Film and Music Fest takes place July 12-19 off the coast of Naples. Honored guests include Antonio Banderas, Helen Mirren, Taylor Hackford, Matteo Garrone, Jimmy Kimmel and Cheryl Boone Isaacs.
