'Robot' a ratings machine

Adult Swim garnered its best numbers in the adults 18-34 demo with Sunday night's episode of "Robot Chicken," while the season finale of HGTV's "Design Star" was off only slightly from last week against competition from the Emmy telecast.

"Robot Chicken" averaged 2.3 million viewers at 11:30 p.m. Sunday, including 1.3 million in 18-34, according to Nielsen Media Research. The demo number represents Adult Swim's most-watched original telecast ever in 18-34; it's also an increase of 70% compared with the same time period a year ago. "Robot Chicken's" third season premiered in August; the second-season DVD was released this month.

Adult Swim's sister channel Cartoon Network drew 1.4 million viewers to the premiere of its first live-action series, "Out of Jimmy's Head," at 7 p.m. Friday. The show is a spinoff of Cartoon's live-action/animated movie "Re-animated," which premiered in December.

Meanwhile, the second-season finale of "Design Star," in which Kim Myles was named the top designer, averaged 3.1 million total viewers at 9 p.m. Sunday, off only slightly from last week's 3.3 million. Myles will get her own series on HGTV, which is expected to premiere in March.

Elsewhere, VH1's "Rock of Love With Bret Michaels" drew its biggest audience ever with 3.5 million viewers at 9 p.m. Sunday. At 10 p.m., "Hogan Knows Best" averaged 2.4 million.

At Nickelodeon, the new user-generated-themed series "iCarly" averaged 3.4 million viewers at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, down only slightly from the Sept. 8 premiere (3.5 million). The telecast was part of a Nick programming event dubbed "TEENick Back-to-School Bash," which also included a new episode of "Drake & Josh" (4.2 million) and the season premieres of "Zoey 101" (3.7 million), "Just Jordan" (2.4 million) and "Unfabulous" (2.2 million).
