Rock Band Queen to Collect Global Icon Award at 2011 MTV European Music Awards

LONDON – Rock band Queen will be honored with the Global Icon Award at the 2011 MTV European Music Awards.
Queen’s Brian May and Roger Taylor will also take to the stage for a special performance.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of Queen’s formation in 1971.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers have garnered a long list of accomplishments and accolades over the course of the band’s career posting sales of more than 300 million albums, 16 No. 1 albums, 18 No. 1 singles and the U.K.’s top-selling album of all time – the band’s Greatest Hits compilation has sold 5.7 million copies.
In October 2002, Queen received their own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, joining The Beatles as one of only a handful of non-U.S. bands to receive this much coveted honor.
Hosted by Selena Gomez, the awards will are scheduled to be held in Northern Ireland on Nov. 6.
