With the Oscar show undergoing a makeover, David Rockwell has been chosen to design the sets for the 81st Annual Academy Awards.

Rockwell has never designed an Oscarcast but is well versed in the Academy's venue: His firm, the Rockwell Group, designed the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland, where the awards will be held Feb. 22.

"David is an innovator who possesses the outstanding combination of truly firsthand knowledge of the Kodak Theatre and superb design work in a variety of realms, including film and theater," the show's producers, Laurence Mark and Bill Condon, said.

Rockwell Group's credits include set design for the upcoming Broadway productions "Catch Me If You Can" and "Houdini" as well as the sets for the stage productions of "Hairspray." (partialdiff)
