Rod Perth to Step Down as NATPE CEO

His final market and conference as CEO will be in January, after which he will remain as a board member.

Rod Perth is stepping down as president and CEO of NATPE after the next market and conference in January 2016 but will continue as a member of the board of directors, it was announced Thursday by NATPE chairman Jordan Levin.

Perth, who is credited with continuing the growth and expansion of the organization started under Rick Feldman, will officially end his tenure in Feb. 2016. A former TV station and network executive, he has been in the job since 2012.

Perth is expected to help find and train his own successor, according to the announcement "to ensure a seamless transition."

"Under his leadership," said Levin, "Rod has greatly increased NATPE's visibility and return to relevance by increasing industry participation across all sectors and platforms. Now that he has succeeded in his mission, we can move to the next phase of the transition by positioning this organization for the future with must-attend events in both the U.S. and internationally."

"It's been a whirlwind three years," said Perth, "and I am proud that, along with the teamwork of this great staff and an energized board, we have successfully repositioned NATPE with a strategy that is broad and inclusive, and one that reflects the dynamic changes that are having a profound impact on our business."

"Given my family priorities," added Perth, "I recently began discussing with the board how I could make an orderly transition from day-to-day duties, and this contract extension will encourage a thoughtful transition to new leadership."

Perth has helped lead NATPE into a continuing transition from an event that was mostly about domestic television syndication to one that also encompasses many other areas. Begun under Feldman, those include international expansion, encompassing digital production and distribution and areas such as advertising, investment banking and brands.

Since the move to Miami Beach four years ago, based at the Fontainebleau Hotel, NATPE has worked to live up to its slogan as the "must-attend market of the Americas," with growing participation by Spanish and Portuguese speaking participants.

This past January saw a major expansion into reality television, with a dedicated day and a new awards program.

Besides the annual market held in Miami Beach, Florida, NATPE also holds an annual market in Prague, and has various events throughout the year.
