Toronto 2012: Roger Michell Will Direct 'Le Weekend' as Next Project
Jim Broadbent, Lindsay Duncan and Jeff Goldblum will star in the Paris-set film.
Director Roger Michell is packing his bags for Le Weekend.
The Notting Hill helmer, who is currently in Toronto for the world premiere of his Hyde Park on Hudson, will direct Le Weekend as his next film, with Jim Broadbent, Lindsay Duncan and Jeff Goldblum starring.
Michell’s long-time collaborator Hanif Kureishi wrote the screenplay. Kevin Loader (Venus) is producing.
The story centers on a long-married British couple (Broadbent and Duncan) who revisit Paris for the first time since their honeymoon in an attempt to revitalize their marriage. While there they run into an old colleague (Goldblum), and the encounter provides the couple with a new vision of what life and marriage might be.
The film begins shooting in Paris in November.
Michell and Loader’s Free Range Films will produce the film in association with Le Bureau for Curzon Film Rights, Film4 and the BFI Film Fund. Film4’s Sue Bruce Smith will executive producer alongside Curzon’s Philip Knatchbull and Louisa Dent. Lizzie Francke will oversee the project for the BFI, and Bertrand Faivre is co-producing for Le Bureau. Embankment Films is handling worldwide sales.
The film marks Curzon’s entry into film financing. The company will be financing against worldwide sales and taking an equity position in the film. Curzon’s distribution arm, Artificial Eye, will release the film in the U.K., with Film4 taking TV rights.
