New role for Peter Bart at Variety
Trade paper's editor-in-chief will segue into vp postJust months shy of 20 years at the helm of Variety, editor-in-chief Peter Bart is shifting into a new role as vp and editorial director, the trade publication said.
Editor Tim Gray will assume day-to-day responsibilities of the news operation. He will report to Variety president Neil Stiles.
Bart will continue to write his weekly column and maintain his blog. He also will be the public face of the trade at industry events and in the media.
Bart will report to Tad Smith, CEO of Reed Business, Variety’s parent company, assisting him in "furthering Variety's editorial mission in print and online and expanding the brand's position in new revenue streams," the paper said.
The changes take effect immediately, it said.
