Roma Fiction Fest Lineup Announced
Highlights include world premieres of ‘American Crime’ and ‘How to Get Away with Murder’
The Roma Fiction Fest scored two big world premieres this year in its lineup, with American Crime, which will premiere on ABC in 2015, and How to Get Away with Murder,” which will also premiere on ABC, on Sept. 26. The event, in its eighth year, is the world's leading festival dedicated to international TV fiction shows. The festival will feature seven days of screenings representing 21 countries.
Highlights include Allison Tolman presenting TV series Fargo, and two fan marathons for The Walking Dead and the original BBC series House of Cards, which inspired the Netflix remake. Homeland producer Howard Gordon will participate in a master class on political dramas.
True Detective will be preceded by a screening of Bernardo Bertolucci’s The Spider’s Stratagem, the Italian master’s mesmerizing whodunit film. Bertolucci will be present via video interview to discuss the two works.
A tribute to Transformers director Michael Bay will include screenings of his TV projects The Last Ship and Black Sails, both of which Bay executive produced.
An official awards ceremony will dole out prizes to the best series and actors for both Italian and international productions. Best new series nominees include Orange is the New Black, Top of the Lake, and The Americans. Best interpretation of an international television character nominees include Juliana Margulies (The Good Wife), Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones), Maggie Smith (Downton Abbey), Jon Hamm (Mad Men), Kevin Spacey (House of Cards), and Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad). The award is expected to be delivered to the most notorious TV character of the year.
Roma Fiction Fest takes place from Sept. 13-19 at the Auditorium Parco della Musica.
