TALLINN, Estonia - Roman Polanski's essence, if not his physical presence, hung over the 23rd European Film Awards as Polanski's political thriller The Ghost Writer spirited away six trophies, including best film and best director. Star Ewan McGregor won best European actor for his performance as a writer-for-hire drawn into a deadly political game.
