Ron Spaulding Named Senior VP of Sales at Capitol Music Group

Universal’s newly acquired and renamed Capitol Music Group continues to staff up with top-tier talent. The latest to come aboard: Ron Spaulding, previously president of Fontana, Universal Music Group Distribution’s independent distribution arm, who joins as senior vice president of sales.

Spaulding will be based out of the company’s iconic Capitol Tower in Hollywood where he’ll report to executive vice president Greg Thompson and oversee Capitol Music Group’s field marketing staff in the execution of strategic retail campaigns, among other sales duties.

Spaulding joined Fontana, which was purchased by INgrooves last year, as executive vice president and general manager in 2007. He had previously served as executive vice president and general manager of Asylum and EastWest Records, and senior vice president of sales at WEA, Warner Music Group’s distribution arm.

Newly appointed Capitol chairman and CEO Steve Barnett has been on a hiring spree in recent weeks, naming Michelle Jubelirer executive vice president at Capitol Music Group on Feb. 5 and Ron Fair as chief creative officer and executive vice president at Virgin two weeks prior.

Said Spaulding in an announcement of his new position: “Capitol’s legacy includes some of the all-time most impactful moments in music, and with this incredible new team in place, we’ll be working with our artists to create even more history in the years ahead.”
