'Rookie' Blogger Tavi Gevinson Sings Pet Shop Boys' 'Heart' (Audio)
The 16-year-old wunderkind records an acoustic edition of the group's 1998 track, a No. 1 Billboard hit in the U.K.
When Tavi Gevinson first became famous as a tween fashion blogger, people praised the precocious Chicago native as having an old soul.
It's fitting, then, that her singing voice -- earnest and clear -- seems to harken back to another era, with a coffee shop-esque sophistication beyond her 16 years.

Gevinson recorded the song to promote the release of Cadaver: A Bittersweet Love Story on Feb. 1. It's a picture-book adaptation of the animated short from Jonah Ansell in which she voices a character along with Christopher Lloyd and Kathy Bates. (The plot revolves around a cadaver who awakens to say one last goodbye to his wife "but discovers a truth in death he didn’t know in life," according to a description.)
Gevinson has also done a cover of Neil Young's "Heart of Gold" that's included with the book sale in addition to the Pet Shop Boys song (fun fact: it was originally penned for Madonna).
Now editor of the online magazine Rookie, last August Gevinson signed with UTA and also closed a deal for her to make her acting debut in writer-director Nicole Holofcener's untitled new film at Fox Searchlight.
