Rosie O'Donnell Mocks Roseanne Barr at NYC Awards Show
She also jokes she's going to be "all happy" now that she has a new show on Oprah's OWN network.
Rosie O'Donnell mocked Roseanne Barr and joked about her new sunny personality (now that she's returning to TV) Monday at the Matrix Awards in New York City.
O'Donnell -- who will launch a show on the OWN Network this fall, taped from Oprah Winfrey's Chicago studio -- appeared at the event, thrown at the Waldorf Astoria by New York Women in Communications, to present her publicist, Cindi Berger of PMK-BNC, an award.
"Hi, I'm Rosie, star of the Flinstones," joked the controversial actress, who left The View in 2007 after one year. "I'm wearing a bejeweled tunic, which I've never done before. The New York Women in Communication staff said they needed to see my speech… But I normally just wing it at these events."
"Sometimes it works. I figure I'm safe because Arianna Huffington already said 'kick ass,'" O'Donnell went on, impersonating Huffington's Greek accent.
Then, as if speaking to herself, O'Donnell quipped, "TV Show. Friendly. Nice. Up. Happy!"
"It's not easy being Rosie O'Donnell's publicist," she laughed. "I'm all happy [now] -- I have a new show coming on TV in September. I put on my makeup. I haven't cursed. Without her…I don't think I'd be here. I'd be on the macadamia nut farm with Roseanne Barr." (Barr has a reality show about her Hawaiian nut farm.)
"I'd be wearing overalls, going what the f--k happened?" O'Donnell added, mouthing the expletive.
Betty White was also honored at the awards show. "It's wonderful to be a role model at 89… much less anything at 89," joked White, who appeared live via satellite from the set of Hot in Cleveland.
Mark Burnett, who announced a deal with Hearst Monday, presented Abbe Raven, president and CEO of A&E TV Networks, with an award. "Television is a very rough and tough business," Burnett said. "You have to work with people you certainly wouldn't socialize with." (For the record, Raven does not fall in that category, he said.) She thanked him, and admitted, "After many years being in this business, I feel like I've won Survivor." Read the full list of honorees here.
