Royal Baby: TV Networks Show Prince George Arriving at Hospital to Visit His Newborn Sister
The media circus in London picked up a notch in the afternoon as the young prince waved at the crowd.
The media circus surrounding Kate Middleton and Prince William's newborn daughter kicked into a higher gear late afternoon Saturday London time when the latter left the hospital only to return with Prince George.
The last time official photos of Prince George were printed in Britain was on Christmas. TV reporters said that since then, his hair seems to have grown thicker and is now blond.
U.K. and international TV networks showed Prince William and Prince George, wearing matching oufits, as they arrived at St. Mary's Hospital in London at around 4:15 p.m. local time (8:15 a.m. L.A. time). The young prince, carried by his father, waved at the crowd of reporters and royal fans. Sky News, BBC News and ITV, in a news special, covered the scene live. When Prince William left the hospital to get his son, he had said the couple was "very happy" about the birth of their daughter.
Media crews had been hoping for the young royal to visit, as the event mirrored Prince William's visit to St. Mary's when his brother, Prince Harry, was born in 1984.
"There is some wonderful TV footage of a very little Prince William. Whether we will see Prince George walk up those steps, we will see," Sky News royal correspondent Rhiannon Mills had told THR recently. "We will be hoping for that shot, however, we have been told that will be a consideration that the couple makes on the day."
TV crews descended upon the hospital and took up their reserved positions in London's early-morning hours after the royal palace announced that Middleton had gone into labor at around 6 a.m. local time.
The baby girl's birth was announced only a few hours later. BBC News and Sky News soon reported that the couple and their baby could emerge as early as later in the same day.
Live reports showed large numbers of TV crews waiting outside the hospital. Several reporters described the atmosphere as calmer than when Prince George was born in July 2013. Back then, camera crews camped out at the hospital well ahead of the birth.
