'Zombieland' Director Ruben Fleischer Inks Pod Deal at 20th TV
In addition to launching a new Fox-based production company, Fleischer will develop, EP and direct projects in both the comedy and drama genres.
Director-producer Ruben Fleischer has inked an overall pod deal at 20th Century Fox Television.
As part of the pact, he’s set to develop, executive produce and direct comedy and drama projects as well as launch a new production company based at Fox.
"My first job in Hollywood was as a PA in the writers room of Dawson's Creek, and from that early experience on, I’ve always had an intense appreciation for the energy, creativity and process of making television,” said Fleischer, who broke into the industry by helming video segments for Jimmy Kimmel Live!
Added Dana Walden, chairman of 20th TV: “We love to make deals with directing producers like Ruben; he has a distinct style, and he elevates whatever material he’s working on. He has a million ideas, and Jonny [Davis, head of comedy development] and Michael [Thorn, head of drama development] can’t wait to get started developing with him.”
In recent years, Fleischer, who created and executive produced MTV’s Rob and Big and Fantasy Factory, has become better known for his film work. He made his directorial debut with Sony’s horror comedy Zombieland, starring Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone and Jesse Eisenberg. His other big-screen efforts include the 2011 comedy effort 30 Minutes or Less and Warner Bros.’ upcoming Gangster Squad, a crime drama starring Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone.
Fleischer, who is producing the independent film Two Night Stand, is repped by UTA and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.
