Rush Limbaugh Apologizes to Law Student for 'Slut' Insult

Rush Limbaugh has issued an apology to the law student he insulted on his radio program earlier this week. 

The apology comes one day after multiple sponsors indicated they would withdraw support from his program, because of controversial comments he made about Georgetown student Sandra Fluke.

“For over 20 years, I have illustrated the absurd with absurdity, three hours a day, five days a week,” Limbaugh wrote in a statement appearing on his website. “In this instance, I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation. I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke.”

On Friday, bedding companies Sleep Train and Select Comfort, as well as the Cleveland Cavaliers basketball team and Quicken Loans, said they would pull ads from The Rush Limbaugh Show.

Limbaugh had called Fluke a "slut" and a "prostitute,” on air Wednesday, after she spoke before House Democrats about the need for insurance coverage for birth control at universities.

In his apology, Limbaugh did not back away from his disapproval of government-funded birth control.

“Where do we draw the line?” he asked in the statement. "Will we be debating if taxpayers should pay for new sneakers for all students that are interested in running to keep fit?”

Limbaugh’s controversial comments have kept him in the headlines as well as galvanized Democratic support for Fluke. Senate Democrats told the Huffington Post an online petition denouncing Limbaugh’s comments received 100 thousand signatures in 24 hours, making it their fastest growing petition ever.

“Misogyny must be called out, especially when it comes from a mouthpiece of the Republican Party,” the petition reads.
