Russia Box Office: 'Everest' Stays on Top
The local sports drama 'Voin' debuted in second place.
Everest stayed on top of the Russian box office for the second weekend in a row, an achievement that no other film has been able to match in months.
The adventure drama, which had a general release in Russia on Sept. 24 after a week at IMAX theaters only, added 151 million rubles ($2.4 million) to its gross during its second weekend in theaters, according to data from the company Movie Research.
Currently, Everest is the year's 18th-top-grossing movie but has a good chance of climbing higher.
Voin (Warrior), a $1.5 million local sports drama directed by Alexei Andrianov and produced by Fyodor Bondarchuk's studio Art Pictures, debuted in second place. It grossed 104 million rubles ($1.7 million).
Legend debuted in third place, taking in 76.9 million rubles ($1.2 million).
The Intern slipped one position, down to fourth place, grossing 73 million rubles ($1.17 million).
Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, the champion of the Sept. 17-20 weekend, was in fifth place, adding 40.1 million rubles ($643,000) to its gross.
