Russia Box Office: 'The Jungle Book' Hits No. 1 in Debut
Russia was the pic's biggest international opening behind only India.
Disney's The Jungle Book arrived in Russia with a good start, cashing in on local viewers' love for family adventure movies and topping the weekend's box office.
Director Jon Favreau's rendition of the Rudyard Kipling classic grossed $6.2 million, or nearly five times as much as Hardcore Henry, which came in second. It was the movie's second-biggest international opening, behind only India.
Hardcore Henry, a POV sci-fi action pic produced and distributed by Timur Bekmambetov's Bazelevs and directed by Ilya Naishuller, took in $1.3 million.
Disney's Zootopia slipped to third place. The animated tentpole grossed $450,000 in its sixth frame for a cume of $31.2 million.
Warner Bros.' Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice fell to fourth place. Zack Snyder's superhero movie took in $367,000 in its third outing for a gross of $11.9 million to date.
Yuri Vasilyev's war drama Geroy (Hero) came in at No. 5, grossing $265,000 for a cume of $1.4 million.
