Zootopia grossed $4.6 million in its second frame for a cume of $20.6 million, making it the top-grossing release of all time from Disney Animation Studios or Pixar.
Lionsgate's The Divergent Series: Allegiant opened at No. 2, taking in $2.9 million.
The Brothers Grimsby, a Sacha Baron Cohen comedy from Sony, debuted in third place, grossing $884,000.
Lionsgate's Gods of Egypt, which was a disappointment elsewhere in the world, stayed in the top five for the third consecutive frame. Alex Proyas' movie came in at No. 4, grossing $571,000 for a cume of $9.4 million.
The local romantic comedy 8 luchshikh svidaniy (8 Best Dates) slipped to fifth place, taking in $369,000 for a cume of $2.4 million, according to data from research company Movie Research.
